From journalist to designer/copywriter to all-round freelancer, I had developed a mixed bag of skills. Chalk Creation was the culmination of my experience in the format of my own agency. As a young entrepreneur I took on any and all projects, but eventually Chalk moulded itself into a primarily digital agency focusing on art and strategy.
With the digital expertise of my partner, Jess Southey, added to the bag, we were able to meet the needs of clients ranging from SMMEs to global entities. Throughout the better part of a decade our team has grown and shrunk, but despite challenges such as Covid, the business is a going entity and my primary responsibility.
As the digital revolution engulfs us near completely, marketing has become a saturated industry, with many players attempting to take advantage of scaled solutions. While acknowledging titans such as Google, and the role that these entities must play in developing modern strategies, our game plan at home was simple.
We didn’t believe that one size fits all. Analysis, expression, and context were our first port-of-call in all planning stages. The ability to develop resources was not unique. Instead, we set ourselves apart by walking with our clients from start to finish whenever possible and took pride in developing a shared vision that companies had completely bought into.
While established companies are usually well-versed in processes, we often had cause to deal with SMMEs and start-ups. Below is an example of a tutorial that would be distributed to clients who were as yet unsure of the next steps to take pending their engagement with Chalk.
